How ‘50 Shades of Ginger’ was born
Roland’s TrueVIS range prints the brightest, most vivid and accurate colours - even the notoriously tricky oranges and reds.
Using TrueVIS colour technology we created the first ever Ginger Colour Index featuring 50 unique shades of reds and oranges, alongside a unique lookbook to illustrate the huge variety of shades that make up the ‘ginger’ collective, launched on World Redhead Day (26th May 2023).
But we didn't stop there, we took our colour index to the world’s biggest ginger festival - the Redhead Days Festival - in the Netherlands, helping 40,000 redheads to finally find their perfect hair colour match.

Why is the Redhead Revolution important?
We conducted consumer research to deeper understand the experiences of fed-up redheads. What was it like to grow up as a redhead? How do redheads describe their own unique colour?
|54% of red heads would never describe their hair as ‘ginger’, and with our Ginger Colour Index, they don’t have to.|
|47% of red heads experienced bullying because of their hair.|
|The age of 20 is when redheads learnt to love their locks.|
|By their early-20s, 34% loved the fact their hair stood them apart from blondes and brunettes.|

|Almost half (48%) of respondents have even attempted to dye their hair.|
