Roland DG Announces the Launch of the MDX-50 Automated 3D Milling Machine

Roland DG Corporation, the leading manufacturer of digital fabrication tools including 3D milling machines, 3D printers and engraving machines, today announced the launch of the MODELA MDX-50 3D milling machine with the first global viewings taking place in the UK at TCT Show on the TechSoft UK Ltd stand G54 in Hall 3A.

TCT Show is the ideal location for the first global exhibition of the MDX-50 CNC milling machine; being dedicated to accelerating the adoption of 3D technologies. The newly announced MDX-50 provides a number of exciting enhancements over the MDX-40A mill. Offered as a complete system, it includes an updated and easy-to-use CAM software, a larger workspace and an automatic tool changer (ATC) as standard, as well as an improved feed rate to deliver faster milling speed. The MDX-50 increases milling capability with an improved feed rate along the XYZ axes resulting in a boost in productivity. The machining area has also been increased by 60 percent to handle larger models and mill multiple objects simultaneously. Another key benefit of the MDX-50 is the automated workflow. With the integrated ATC there is no need for the operator to change tools or re-set tool lengths during production. An optional rotary axis unit can rotate material 360 degrees to mill cylindrical objects and automate the fabrication of 2-sided, 4-sided and custom-angled items. Thanks to the ATC and rotary axis, once milling begins users can leave the device to run unattended with confidence.

To meet the demands of the growing trend in digital fabrication, the MDX-50 is both intuitive and safe to use, making it ideal for students, hobby engineers, enthusiasts and professionals alike. The integrated control panel enables on-the-fly adjustment of milling and spindle speed, highlights spindle load and displays remaining milling time. To further assist users in managing workflow, operators can also monitor machine status with the on-screen “VPanel” which sends email notification when machining work is complete or if intervention is required. The “VPanel” also records tool usage time and replacement intervals. The SRP Player CAM software, bundled with the MODELA series, configures jobs easily in five intuitive steps to make production simple even for first-time users. The cover safeguards users from moving parts and prevents waste from scattering. An integrated tray collects dust and debris.

Yazawa adds, “R&D departments increasingly need to address the demands for shorter prototyping and design schedules.
